“What would it take for you to design something… ?“ I met this person by pure coincidence. Out of the blue, an artist in a very different field, but a common interest.. CARS. This proposition was simple yet, I had actually never thought about something like this, at least, to this extend “…just looking to have those 2 smashed together into a lovely creation”. This statement was enough, I needed to do something about it…
The project was form by two artists.
Both with automotive preferences at different ends of the spectrum.
The task was simple. Create an automobile for the project that could represent both partners involved.
an R32 GTR on one end and a 1968 El Camino SS
The core idea was “ROUGH/RAW”. Straight to the point. The juxtaposition of two completely different automotive languages, cultures and decades. Get there first, varnish later.. For this expression, I used the R32 as a base and stripped the whole interior for weight reduction while adding cage protection and chassis modifications to fit the new powertrain. With that out of the way, the old combustion engine was swapped to fit new faster technology, in this case, a Tesla Performance Drive Unit and proper Lithium-Ion Batteries. And finally, El Camino front & rear panels fitted to accommodate the wider stance. All of this sitting in CustomSpec Gun Metal ROC-H Rotiforms.
The build was actually finished in rough blue, however, for the sake of this archive, I gave it a Chalk Pink finish afterwards.
